Mah jong instructions???? Jan 22, 2007

We are very happy with the game we purchased (it's very attractive and solid), but the instructions are terrible. I know Mah Jong is complex with many different versions, but these instructions don't even make sense. We have been back on the internet several times to clarify the rules, and still have not found some answers. We are going to keep trying though, and we do like the quality of the tiles themselves.

Standard Tiles, I think Not Jul 10, 2010
By Frank Faunce Eventhough they state that these are standard tiles, they are not. They are smaller than typical mah jong tiles, but they are not as small as some sets I have seen. They are quite heavy, and appear to be durable, but if you are looking for a normal size set, look elsewhere.

Mahjong! Oct 14, 2009
By Daniel Julian My wife is Chinese and she played Mahjong a lot at home, now she can play here too. These folk are great to work with....my wife misunderstood the sizes and we ordered the mini. They exchanged the smaller set for regular tiles (plus the difference in price) and away we went....good folk and a great product.

TOO SMALL !!! Nov 14, 2011
By kk Got it for $26.78 w/free ship. This is NO standard tile. It is 20mm(W) 28mm(H) x 14mm(D)! It's HALF the size of the real "Standard" tiles I brought from Hong Kong. Please see uploaded photos. It's ok if you are looking for a travel set but this is too small to be playable in my opinion. The case is a bit beat up and dirty. Tiles are poorly printed when look up close (even it looks good in my photos), you can see some very rough edging on the symbols. You get what you paid for. I would not suggest using it as a gift, it will simply makes you look bad!
UPDATE:
I saw they raised the price to $50+ and that's just a rip off! I ended up ordering a large pro set for $34 - Professional Chinese Mahjong Game Set - Large. The cool thing is that I ordered yesterday noon, talked to Amazon customer service, returned this crappy set I ordered, they gave me 2-day shipping for free on new order. And this new pro set already arrived at noon today (can't believe it!).
Now if you want a Medium size Mahjong set, this is the Medium version of my new pro set for only $24.99 (even bigger, cheaper and far better quality than this "standard tile set" I'm reviewing here. Here it is: Professional Chinese Mahjong Game Set - Medium
Beginners beware Dec 10, 2011

Yes, I saw the title ... "Chinese Mah Jong....", but being a newcomer to the game, I assumed all Mah jong was Chinese. Got a book to go with it. Turned out to be for "American Mah Jong" which can't be played with this set of tiles. Still can't try playing the game because the directions that came in this box of tiles were not clear (written by Chinese and not translated very well). We're getting a book on how to play the Chinese version. The tiles are very nice quality and I look forward to learning Chinese Mah Jong.
