4A great toy but...  Aug 29, 2004

My 2.5 year old son was so excited to get Alphie, it was all he talked about for weeks. While the toy is cute and durable like all of the Thomas Friends, we were both very disappointed to discover the scoop is a solid piece instead of a hollow working scoop. He still plays with Alphie all the time but comments from time to time that Alphie's scoop is "broken".

My son loves Thomas the Train characters. "Alfie" was a great purchase. My son loves the toy and plays with him often. The toy has survived several drops on the floor, so I believe it is well made and durable. You can't beat the cheaper prices of these characters compared to what you'd normally pay in Wal-mart or Target.

Our star ratings reflect the questions asked, which did not pertain as well as I thought other questions could've been. Otherwise it is great. It was new in a package and arrived as described.

One of the reasons we asked for this toy was that it combined my boy's love for the Thomas and Friends trains with his love for construction vehicles. Although Alfie is as well-constructed as other T&F vehicles, the scooper itself is covered over with a plastic plate. So, the scooper doesn't scoop. BOO. Annoyed both me and the boy.

We did later discover that the scooper is magnetized which is fun.

My 3 year old son is a super fan of Thomas and Friends so any item he loves. I love the wooden Alfie much better than the die cast one. He looks more realistic. A great toy for any Thomas lover.
