Excellent and arrived earlier than stated Sep 18, 2009
By Eric Long My son and I just received the bokken set and are quite pleased with them. They are well made and very well balanced. Better then most that I have had over the years. So far they are holding up nicely to impacts, though we really aren't trying to hit them very hard as we purchased them for Kata practice. The black finish is excellent which does make it heavier than the natural one. The guard fits tightly on both and needed no glue to hold it in place. Our order was shipped the day after we ordered it and it arrived a day earlier than stated. They were well wrapped to protect them and the box arrived with no damage. I will be purchasing more from them in the future as long as their quality maintains at this level.

Eh.. Jan 01, 2011
By KibaTakeda Well for th price its a good buy but when it comes to sturdiness the black one has alot to be desired exspecialy after breaking after only 2 days of use, how ever the natural one is pretty sturdy so i'd sugest buying at your own risk.

a good value Jan 06, 2009
By Jonathan Before you read any further, let me make this clear: I use these bokken for iaido (sword-drawing) practice. Thus, I cannot make any claims for how they hold up when using them to have a mock swordfight with a friend. The label on the handle's shrink wrap does state, however, they are not intended for full contact. That said, they are each made of one piece of very sturdy oak and are quite thick, so I'd imagine they'd take a good beating.
The bokken are about the average length of most katana. The handle itself seems a bit thick, but there is no wrapping so it's mostly an illusion, as it sits in your hand about the same. The weight is slightly heavier than a true katana, which again is normal for a bokken and helps build strength. The handle struck me as just an inch or two too short for iaido, but this is easily remedied by simply moving up the tsuba (handguard) and inch or two and securing it there.
All in all, this is a good buy, as many bokken of this quality cost about $60 apiece.

Good Practice Jun 25, 2007

Made very well, the light oak is thicker and heavier than the black one but not by much. Handle guards come seperated from sword, I've superglued them on to keep them from slipping and wobbling around during practice.
Handles are also rope laced, a wee bit loose but it still works.
I've used the bubble wrap they came in as removable padding over the blades until I get comfortable and practiced enough to practice bare blade.

BROKEN ALREADY?! Mar 28, 2011
By reviewer After ordering, i was please to find them at my house sooner than the estimated arrival. I unwrapped them, and admired their weight and sturdiness. I went outside with my brother and we clashed swords. I hear a snap crack and the black one has a splinter from the tip to the center, that i know is only going to get worse. So if your gonna hit softly these are good for you. However if you plan on really hitting I might not advise getting these.
